Sanitary instructions on arrival in France

    21st August, 2020

If you are travelling to mainland France directly from China (including Hong Kong and Macau), or if you have stayed in China (including Hong Kong and Macau) within 30 days of your arrival on French territory, you must have :

  • A certificate of international travel waiver specifying the reason for your trip. This certificate must be presented to the transport company before departure and at border controls, accompanied by the necessary supporting documents.
  • A declaration that the person does not show symptoms of covid-19 infection and that he or she is not aware of having been in contact with a confirmed case of covid-19 within 14 days prior to departure.
  • In addition, holders of short- or long-stay visas (including study visas) are advised to have a virological screening test less than 72 hours prior to departure to ensure that they are not contaminated with covid-19. Those who cannot justify a negative test result upon arrival in metropolitan France will be invited to quarantine themselves at their home or at a place they will indicate to the health authorities present at the airport.

Attention: for those who have to travel to overseas territories, the presentation to boarding of a virological screening test carried out less than 72 hours before departure that does not conclude contamination by COVID-19 is mandatory.

    The certificates are available here.

Children under 11 years of age are not affected by these measures.

What about foreigners whose short-term residence visas expire and who cannot return to their country of origin, or whose country prohibits entry from France for health reasons, or whose country faces the same health problems? Or because of air traffic disruption?

In case of a justified emergency, a person with a short-term residence visa in France can obtain an extended short-term residence visa (90 days) or a temporary residence permit (3 months is recommended). Please contact "Préfecture" where you live.

Agencies are required to organize specific ways to receive the public in order to take into account these legitimate user emergencies and avoid the consequences of an irregular stay in France.
