General information

Visa process time


Visa applications submitted in Egypt are processed by the Consulate General of France in Cairo, which alone is authorized to make visa decisions. Once the file is complete, apart from reunification and family reunification, at least ten days are necessary for the examination of the file (short and long stay) by the Consulate General of France. It is therefore advisable to anticipate so as to obtain an appointment at least two months before departure.

Starting from December 12, 2021, the passback (Passport collection) at Alexandria center will be open again


Starting from 12 December 2021, for the visa applications submitted at the Alexandria Center, after the completion of the procedures, passports that were not requested by the courier service can be collected from our center in Alexandria directly on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14:30 to 16:00, except the public holidays.

The passport can be collected by a third person


Starting from the 25th of July 2021, passports can be collected by a third person form TLScontact center when he provide "Letter of authorization" form, please find all details related to this process below:

  • Letter of authorization signed by you (clearly stating the representative’s details) as following:
    - If the representative is a first-degree relative (Spouse-Parent-Brother-Sister), he/she has to submit a written authorization from the applicant with the same signature on the application checklist with a proof of relationship (e.g. Birth certificate, marriage contract... etc.)
    - If the representative is NOT a first-degree relative, he/she must submit the stamped "Letter of authorization" form which was delivered to the applicant in the day of the appointment and includes the representative’s details.


  • If the representative will submit the documents at the center instead of the applicant, the applicant must download and fill out two forms of “Letter of authorization” and sign them before the appointment to hand them over to the representative, who must submit the originals at the center on the day of the appointment.
  • In case the representative has been changed, the applicant must come in person at our center with two new forms of “Letter of authorization” filled and signed incudes the new representative data.

- If you have chosen Express Courier Return Service, your passport will be sent to the address chosen during the submission.

Applying for all types of visas are available now except one type

Kindly be informed that you can now apply for all types of visas except the tourist visa if your previous visa was not circulation. This means, if your previous visa was circulation, you can apply now, if your previous visa was not circulation, then you can not apply.

Note: Circulation visa name must be written on your previous visa in the lower part: COURT SEJOUR CIRCULATION and should be issued on / after 2015 and not before.

A gradual resumption of visa issuance will take place over the coming weeks


A gradual resumption of visa issuance will take place over the coming weeks; its practical modalities will be specified by diplomatic and consular posts, taking into account the local context. This gradual relaunch does not prejudge new health conditions and provisions for entry into the national territory of France, the terms of which will be the subject of dedicated information when the time comes.

Long-stay student visa applicants will be invited to scan their supporting documents on France-Visas


From the 7th of April 2021, in order to simplification and dematerialization, applicants for long-stay student visas will be invited to scan their supporting documents when entering their applications on France-Visas website.

Unavailability of the France-Visas site


Due to a technical maintenance intervention, France-Visas website will be unavailable on March 24, 2021 from 07:00 am to 11:00 am "Paris time". During this intervention, no operation can be carried out from the France Visas portal (online application and Guichet) nor by visa applicants, nor by TLScontact, nor by post.

Call Centre & Passback Closure


Please note that our Call Centre and Passback will be closed on 22, 23 and 24 December.
We will be open on the usual days and hours from Sunday 27 December.



  • A certificate of exceptional international travel to mainland France. This certificate must be presented to transport companies before using the transport ticket and to the authorities in charge of border control (air, sea and land links, including rail links).
  • A statement that you do not have symptoms of COVID-19.

These documents can be downloaded in French and English from the website of the Ministry of the Interior In addition, depending on your place of departure, if you are over 11 years old you will be subject to an obligation to test before boarding or upon arrival:

A. Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, United States, Panama: you must present a negative PCR test result, carried out less than 72 hours before departure, before boarding. You will not be able to board if you cannot present this document. Please note, from November 11 you will also have to be tested before departure for the following additional countries: South Africa, Algeria, China, Ecuador, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, DRC, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.

B. If you come from another country, it is strongly recommended that you present a negative test result, carried out less than 72 hours before departure, when you arrive in France. If you do not have this result, you will be subjected to a test at the arrival airport.

Sarting from the 4th of November 2020, the service fee payment will be "online" or by "Fawry stores" during the appointment booking process.
The visa fee has to be paid in EGP in cash at TLScontact centre.



A new exceptional international travel certificate is available on the website of the French Ministry of the Interior.
This certificate should be presented on departure at Cairo airport and on arrival in France.

Due to the global health crisis, France has decided to postpone the issuance of visas for students.
Applications can be submitted at TLScontact but the visas cannot be issued before the 15th of August 2020 and please note that this date may be postponed.



Following the announcement by the French authorities that they will start processing visa applications once more, our Visa Application Centre will be reopening from 1st July 2020.

Our appointment table is now open for the following reasons:

  • Study / competitions (short and long stays);
  • Professional reasons "Business" (short and long stay);
  • Family purpose for establishment in France.
Only people appearing on this list are authorized to deposit with TLScontact.

The issuance of Short-stay visas for "Family visit" and "Tourist travel" remains suspended until further notice.

Files will be submitted only on Wednesdays in Alexandria from 08h00 to 14h00.

We are implementing strict safety measures to protect our visa customers and our employees:

  • Anyone wishing to enter our centre will be required to provide a body temperature reading at the entrance. We will not be able to accept anyone with a temperature reading higher than 38°C;
  • Wearing the mask and gloves will be mandatory;
  • You will also need to bring your own pen;
  • We are applying strict social distancing measures inside our centre.

Passport collection is only available in Cairo on Sundays and Wednesdays from 08:00 to 14:00.

The possible issue of a visa does not guarantee the possibility of immediate entry into the territory, which remains determined by the restrictions applicable at the borders. Before applying for a visa, it is recommended to check if you are authorized to enter France by consulting the following page:

In case your passport is returned back to you with an information letter from the French Consulate please note the following:

  • If you wish to apply again, you will need to book a new appointment;
  • In order to be exempted from the visa fees you need to submit the stamped letter that you have received from the French Consulate and the receipt of payment. If either of these is not submitted at the time of reapplying you will need to pay the visa fees again;
  • TLS service fees will apply for your new application.

Please note that this does not apply on visa applications that were rejected.

The passback "Passport collection" will be open on Sundays and Wednesdays only from 08:00 to 14:00.

The Passport collection is available in Cairo only until further notice.


The Visa Application Centers in Cairo and Alexandria will not be able to receive visa applications from March 17th until further notice as a result of the impact of Coronavirus measures.
The passports collection "Passback" is closed. You can still request via the Contact us page to have your passport or legalizations to be sent to you via our TNT service.
The above instructions may be changed at anytime according to the Consulates or local government instructions.


Following the discovery of new cases of coronavirus in Europe, we are taking all the necessary measures to ensure maximum safety of our visa customers and our staff. Our centres remain open, but we ask you to respect any guidance provided on-site during your visa appointment. Please also refer to the advice provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on how to limit your exposure to the virus. Visit WHO website for more information.


You may only submit your visa application within 180 days before your date of departure. We recommend that you apply at least 20 calendar days before the first available appointment at our center because the visa process takes minimum 15 days.

Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days from the date of your return from the Schengen area if you apply for a short visa and at least 15 months from the date of travel to the Schengen area if you apply for a long visa.


Starting from 18 February 2019, instead of filling the OFII, the applicant would be required to access the following link during his first three months in France in order to apply for a residency and legalize his stay.
